Riggghhtt..... I think this is perhaps another debate, not of whether the UG its self is a good thing.
This is the debate of whether putting something on a pedastall (as in the Edited Guide) is a good thing.
We already have the Edited Guide spook. Thats a huge part of the web site. Putting entries in to the UnderGuide is no different than this.
Acceptance and Rejection is a part of life. It helps us improve ourselves.

the question is, "is this what the community wants for their Alternative Writing?" have any questionnaires been sent out? have the other 200 + active non-miners been asked?

We don't reject things. 
We just leave them in the AWW unpicked. Just like with the EG
