(I'd be delighted to participate in a discussion of the flaws of historical heads of state; that's for another thread, though.)
Set one up then!
Churchill will be very interesting.

I'm an initiator not a do'er.
It could be called: 'Politicians aren't perfect? Get out of here!'
I might get round to it at some point just after I make a thread called: 'The Art of procrastination'

Sorry..not me either.
I criticise politicians for a living. It's not a hobby.
SWL, on the other hand, might like to do it. He seems to affect a misanthropic attitude
Besides, it'd give him an opportunity to research some of the things about which he knows so little and yet is so sure!

Now now!!!!
Insulting a fellow researcher...that's unheard of.... I enjoy SWL's contributions it makes people think about their views even more and gets them to create coherent robust defences.

Nothing like cultivating an image one fondly believes to be of a loveable curmudgeon, yet actually coming off as an arrogant, ill-informed, misanthrope.

As I posted on another thread Sarah Palin scares the pants off me!
If she really believes the creationist stuff she spouts then she presumably believe in Armageddon... do we really want this woman to be in the position where she can push the button?
It won't be polar bears she hunting then!
There is another thread about her glasses - it isn't her glasses that scare me, it is her trigger finger linked to beliefs.

Whether she believes it or not, she's on record of wanting it taught in schools as science.
She's also on record as agreeing that the Bush Doctrine is "God's work".
She IS scary. Not as an uneducated, ignorant, self righteous, complacent idiot. There's plenty of them around. But as the potential president of the United States. That's a nightmare.

She's also on record (video) of going 'uh?' when asked what she thought of the Bush Doctrine.
Maybe someone's told her what it is now.
Moral Majority
sayamalu Posted Oct 2, 2008
Yeah, I saw that.
And when the Bush Doctrine was explained to her she sort of went "Oh that! Yeah, we've got god on our side there!"
Frightening, ain't it?

Yes, precisely my point. I have no objection to her beliefs, IQ, or anything else. She is a free citizen, but as Vice President!...........FRIGHTENING!

You lot are really funny. Keep it up
McCain's team have played a blinder. Here we are in October, with the elections next month and all the talk is of Palin/Biden/Obama and McCain is killing himself laughing. Obama attacking Palin can only lose him votes. Palin started from nowhere and can only gain votes. By picking a feisty woman, the McCain team hit Obama's weak spots - his suspected sexism and his unbearable sneering, condescending attitude.
The VP is traditionally a muppet, brought in to safeguard one or two swing states, while the brains lies with the presidential candidate. Last time round they broke the mould and put the muppet in the big seat (hey, it worked with Reagan).
And all you lot can rant & foam about is the muppet
As to McCain's age - "the geriatric" as the pimp in Thailand put it, so what? Roosevelt was a four-term cripple. There have been as many Presidents assassinated as have died from natural causes in office. What's the chances of Obama serving a full term? Shouldn't you be looking at his VP a little more closely?

FYI, my comment about JFK's speech was not intended to praise the man, but to illustrate that, for a brief moment, the US seemed to be regarded by much of its citizenry, and by much of the citizenry of the world, as at least contemplating the path of clear-thinking rationality, unlike the current anti-intellectual trend described in the previously linked article, where the articulate and intelligent are regarded as 'elite' or 'arrogant', and the superficially glib are idolized
"It's more than a general dumbing down of America—the lack of self-motivated thinking: clear, creative thinking. It's like you're happy for other people to think for you. If you should be worried about, say, global warming, well, somebody in Washington will tell me whether or not I should be worried about global warming. So it's like this abdication of intellectual responsibility—that America now is getting to the point that more and more people would just love to let somebody else think for them."

SWL™
<And all you lot can rant & foam about is the muppet>
The muppet who believes god has a plan, believes in creationism, no doubt believes in the Rapture, has gone on about military action against Pakistan/Iran.
Bush was controlled by the puppetmasters. Palin is controlled by her god (or what she thinks her god wants her to do). If McCain does pop his clogs in power(he has had cancer a number of times) then I think she will do gods bidding before she does the bidding of her paymasters.

<<<And all you lot can rant & foam about is the muppet>>>
As opposed to SWL's all-purpose ranting and foaming on every subject.
And yes, Triple D, that's the problem. A set of beliefs such as the one she runs up the flagpole trumps everything else. And eliminates rationality and accountability.
And BTW. Just check any actuarial table. WITHOUT a history of cancer, McCain has a 1 in 3 chance of shuffling off this mortal coil before he completes a presidential mandate. Factor in his medical history and the possibility of another John Hinckley and the fact that actuarial tables deal with AVERAGE jobs, not the presidency, and it would be impressive if he survives the inauguration balls.
Hail to the chief!
