Allies - or not?

Linking this report on the refusal of the US military to provide evidence, or witnesses, both to the inquest covered in this link, and the previous 'Friendly Fire' incident (CoH Matty Hull), I wonder if the US sees itself as the sole arbiter of truth and justice.

What do posters think? Is the US our partner in the coalition, or our boss?

The boss.

From any angle you look at it. They put in all the serious cash and manpower, they make all the key decisions. If they weren't there, we wouldn't be there.

Will Self wrote a very interesting piece on Charles de Gaulle in Saturday's Independent. I quote:

" - his entirely sensible refusal to allow Britain to join the EU, on two occasions, on the basis that not only would the Brits not abide by the rules (amply borne out by events), but that also we would continue to hearken to our master's voice, crying out from across the Atlantic;" Twas ever thus.

Also, Eddie Mair interviewed the American Emabassy's DCoM on the PM programme yesterday who's said that they (the US) didn't investigate fatalities the same way as we did so tough titty. Eddie Mair asked him in that case, if we had read the small print would we have entered the coalition. He didn't have an answer for that.
