I posted on here because as you can probably tell society interests me and I liked your idea for this area of h2g2 space.
Have a look at there are links on there to other stuff that might be of interest to you.
If people do something there is a chance they might succeed but if they do nothing there will only be failure.
If you want to use your computer skills to do anything worthwhile with any ideas on the above thread you are very welcome.

Your right on the third line. Though is it better to make yourself a matyr to a more noble yet unattinable cause or compromise and make what little difference you can to a cause which is still important but much less so than the first?
?? Thats a link to ask. I still wonder about there, this isn't meant to be a replacement more and expansion ??
The best channel for my computer skills, if I am good enough, I hope will be developing the field of AI. Given a chance I'd like to come out of this university and go straight back in to research. If we ever actually acheive true AI it has a lot of potential to make the world a better place and I want a hand in its creation if not steering.

Human Rights Watch, says, "If you kill one person, you go to jail; if you kill 20, you go to an institution for the insane; if you kill 20,000, you get political asylum."

Comments on Idi Amins' too easy a death and a few other jewels about an International Court. Short article. The above quote is from it.

From what I know of the Idi Amin situation I think this is a bad outcome though I think others could have been much worse.
Western involvement in this country had been seen as imperialistic. The country like so many others in Africa had been made ripe for overthrow by a dictator because of its previous treatment by the west.
Amin was roundly condemned by every independent journalist I have ever read or heard commenting on him. He was condemned by politicians of all hues. Theres no doubt that had he faced any kind of justice he would have faced death or life in prison.
Heres the but though and its an important one. How many people would have lost their lives bringing him to justice? If whatever deal was struck that led to his bloodless exile to Saudi Arabia was not honoured how many other dictators would give up the reigns of power in the future?
It is too often that we think about justice for past victims and punishment for offenders without thinking about what they entail. It means risk to those who will bring dictators to justice and who knows how many more victims while the dictaor fights tooth and nail to cling to power.

9 others have gotten the royal Treatment.
It is an established way to get rid of Dictators.
If you get mean enough they will buy you off and send you to a life of luxary.
The same sort of deal was offered S.H.
He refused as far as we know.
