My gaelic's a little rusty... when I say a little I do, of course mean very, but is that smiley - erm 'Why don't you have a Gaelic department?'

Just a word of warning guys.

People AREN'T using the forums we already have. I've made big efforts to try and ensure we have regular teachers but the learners aren't bothering. I don't want this to happen again. The whole thing falls apart if you don't learn the languages you have signed up for. I'm listed as learning practically all of them, just because I have to read all of it anyway, but I can't keep the whole thing moving myself.

Listen Kat, we don't _have_ to have a separate department for every new language someone introduces... why not try and have just a thread here on the page, where the Irish researchers could speak Gaeilge and others could try and pick it up if they want to? I know I'd want to be subscribed to that sort of thread (mainly out of curiosity - even though I'd love to learn Gaeilge one day I really don't think I can handle it now, I'm hardly handling Portuguese as it is). If, by some chance, you see the thread is positively flourishing, maybe you could make a department later. smiley - smiley What does everybody think about that?

Yup.

Could you explain the title word-by-word maybe? I mean, I recognise 'Gaeilge', so I suppose 'án seo' means 'here', but what about the rest?

Cén Fáth Nach is, I believe, 'Why not' and I think Án is at. Admittedly I'm using my patchy rememberances of scotts gaelic, which is a different dialect form.

*pats T.B on the back*

You get a golden star.

Scotch Gaeilge is a dielect of a dialect.In Ireland there is three forms of Irish,Ulster,Munster and Connaught,scotch gaeilge comes from the Scot Tuath who came from ulster.

These days Ulster Irish is the main one taught in schools.

Cén fáth=why
nach raibh=isn't
gaeilge=Irish ..also can say Gaelinn
án seo=here.
