A Conversation for Cloud Types and their Significance
Well-defined bases and tops

Very nice article, but I found the comment about stratus not having well-defined bases or tops a bit confusing.
Stratus clouds can have -fairly well defined- bases and tops if by bases and tops you mean the horizontal point where the cloud starts and stops. Fly a small plane into a stratus layer and the cloud will start at a -fairly- constant altitude throughout that portion of the layer, and when you break out at the top, the tops could also have a -relatively- uniform height.
I'm wondering if you are referring to something else other than the base/top of the cloud layer itself?
