Simon & Garfunkel-Nice Folk
Created | Updated Jul 1, 2003
The reason for my love of these nerdy-looking folk-rock stars is simple. They are brilliant. You only have to listen to one of their many songs to realise that they have and are "it". The lyrics are so wonderfully poetic and meaningful, the vocals are of pure delight, and Simon's strums on his guitar are outstanding. Let us take one of their more well known songs for example: "Mrs Robinson". If that song is anything less than amazing then I would like to know why. The way they hum at the beginning is some of the best humming in the world; the lyrics tell a story of immense proportions; and the vocals make you listen to this story. However, "Mrs Robinson" is not Simon & Garfunkel's song, not by a long shot. The previously mentioned "Sounds Of Silence" is of much higher standard, then there's "The Boxer", or the Paul Simon-sung, "The Only Living Boy In New York". The list of excellent songs is endless, Simon & Garfunkel's amount of power is endless. I believe this sincerely, and I'm sure there are others who share this belief with me. But the fact of the matter is that it doesn't matter who thinks S & G are good and who doesn't, because that doesn't make the slightest difference to the fact that Simon & Garfunkel are the best. They always have been and always will be. If you disagree with me then that's you're problem; obviously you haven't actually heard any of their songs.
If you have never even heard of Simon & Garfunkel then get off your computer now, walk out of your house and go buy an album of their's. There are many to choose from; personally I think the best one to get is "Tales From New York", which is a "Very Best Of" album. I assure you that when you listen to this album you will be consumed by their overwhelming power, and you will never be able to look at another Simon & Garfunkel album without buying it.
I hope my words of praise for the folk-rock gods that Simon & Garfunkel are have been helpful, and I hope that a great many of you feel the same way I do. Thank you for reading this entry on Simon & Garfunkel, the greatest musicians of not only the 20th century, but of any time.
