What - at the age of 22 and with no particular yen for natural history displayed - was Darwin's 'way'?

I'd been wondering about the best way to approach my problems with the original entry, and now I find that Dr Montague has already changed a lot of what I objected to.
I still think there is not enough about FitzRoy's achievements. If you're going to mention him as the 'Father of the Weather Forecast' I think you should give more detail about this: he was appointed Meterological Statist by the Board of Trade in 1854, and over the next few years founded what became the Meterological Office. This wasn't something he took up as a second best, after failing to repel Darwin's ideas - FitzRoy was apparently still visiting Darwin at Down House in 1857, 20 years after the Beagle voyage, and after he was involved in the Meteorological Office.
Even the famous meeting of the British Association in 1860, where he brandished his Bible at Huxley has another side to it - FitzRoy was there to deliver a talk on 'Storms' in his capacity as a meterologist.
I haven't seen the new biographies yet - I got this information from the introduction to a shortened version of FitzRoy's 'Narrative of the Voyage of HMS Beagle'. Its version of FitzRoy's suicide is '..continuing ill health, criticism and deafness brought about a breakdown in 1865, and, driven beyond endurance by worries about his health and also by the pressure of work at his office, he committed suicide..'

Take it easy, Sam! Since the good Doctor has completely rewritten this entry, it'll need a day or two more in Peer Review for us all to have a look and comment. Don't go getting trigger-happy and pressing the ol' red button before we're all happy, now!

having been through this before i know that the editors make a copy of entries and assign a new number to the copy before editing.
So the link to Tierra Del Fuego should go to A1087346 as this will be the number for the edited version of Tierra Del Fuego. And now that the copy has been made I think I will return the picture to the original

Despite the terrible itch on my trigger finger, I have taken on board Gnomon's learned cautionary note, and this entry shall remain in Peer Review a while longer!

Thanks.
Might retreat to WW to get this back together.

I've done some work on it. Shall it go back in PR?

Can't see why not. it certainly is good enough for the guide. But then I liked the original version as well.
