The Science of Discworld II: The Globe

0 Conversations

Roundworld has caught a disease: elves. Now it's up to the Unseen University wizard faculty plus Egregious Professor of Cruel and Unusual Geography, Rincewind to get the fair folk out.
The problem is that the wizards didn't expect something on Roundworld to be there: Us.

Once again Terry Pratchett alongside Doctors Ian Stewart and Jack Cohen to show the parallels of our world and the disc.
As with the first volume, the book changes between discworld novelette and Roundworld science respectively. This time, however the science covers human mind development as opposed to the creation and development of Earth, making our lives a lot more easier to digest.

They challenge religion, modern and ancient science, and were cruel enough to place the bane of every student studying GCSE English, Bill Shakespeare, in there aswell (who took a while arriving in the right place)...

One disappointment is the exclusion of the Bursar... everyone's favourite pill-taker who is staying with his aunt...
But to make up for that we get a nice cameo from Granny Weatherwax!

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
