This was very confusing until I realised that the horn was of the wild animal variety, rather than the musical instrument variety, and one "rings" it by getting the ring to land over it, rather than make it chime like a bell.

Some sort of diagram might help?

I've added a description of the horn at the beginning (it's like a bloody great rhinoceros horn), and a sentence about the ring encirling the horn further down, I hope this helps...

As for diagrams, I'm not really sure where things stand on hat front, with the CA's scheme...

Nowt wrong with this. Few points/questions.

What's the history behind the game? Is it a traditional game in the area? How did it end up in this pub? Is it unique to this pub?

Also maybe link to other pub game entries, like my west country skittles one, for example smiley - winkeye

Links: Good thinking batman.

History: No one in the pub knows. A regular just came in with it one day and said he'd carved it. I've certainly never seen it played in any other pubs in the area....

And then someone had the idea of lobbing a ring over it?

I would put the explanation in the entry, along with a bit saying although it's not a traditional game in the sense of going back a long way (maybe say how long the horn's been there?) it is in the tradition of great British pub games.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Only 25 miles? You disappoint me!
Do you live in or around Derby then (being that you work for the rail industry)? Would you be up for an East Midlands mini-meet?

Yeah, I live about five miles out of Derby. An East Midlands meet would be great, where were you thinking of?

Haven't the faintest yet. Just trying to gauge the amount of interest. I know of one other hootoo luminary who lives locally and that's MaW (assuming he's staying in Nottingham to do his PhD). I live in Beeston, which is about 4 miles west of Nottingham. I have a car so I'm prepared to drive.

PS: a visit to the Galleries of Justice for a study of crime and punishment, with the emphasis on the latter, would be certain to bring one Londoner to the meet. Guess who? smiley - winkeye
