A Conversation for Belly Button Fluff

Does anyone no where the wonder that is known as belly button fluff comes from? Surely it is here for a reason? Is it the belly buttons way of saying "brrr, it's cold" or is there a darker more sinister reason behind its existence? Surely more extensive research should be carried out on the subject, possibly under dim lighting, so we can be sure that the human race is safe. If we let this problem get out of hand where would it end? The world would be covered in it and people would have to drive to work in lawnmowers.
Is it the same as sock fluff or is that a sub-species of the more commonly seen belly button fluff.....?
