i'm home sick...... i'm home and bloody sick of it.....
while i've got you by the short and curlies.... any tips on how to harden my fingertips, for guitar purposes.... the buggers just won't take the hint and i have to give up before they bleed...
tis only an acoustic.....

I thought i could feel something
Well, basically.............there is no substitute for playing, eventually, your fingertips will produce calluses that will harden up and offer a bit of resistance, having said that, unless you are using very heavy guage strings it shouldnt be a problem, unless you are playing/practising a hell of a lot, just take it easy, you'll start not feeling it, adjust your technique, play 'quieter', dont try and attack the strings so hard.......are you fingerpicking, if you are, for your right hand...or left if your left handed, you can get, kinda, thumbnails that can help ease the strain on your picking hand, if your using a plectrum....no probs..........just grin and bear it really, take it easy, when it hurts, stop.......and give yourself a rest

And get an electric..........you wanna rock right !!!
i just thought, i take it it's steel strung, as opposed to a spanish guitar, nylon strung.........if you have probs on nylon strings you are in trouble

Paganmoon - Crazy as Ever Posted Jul 20, 2004
i been grinning and bearing for ever...
it's my left hand, to hold the strings for the chords... i only apply enough pressure to get the chord and i don't practice for too long, me arthritis won't let me, me arms ache... (havin' no luck,lol..) thet just don't seem to want to harden... i must be too feminin.. yeah right....
can't get the hang of pickin', just strum for now... all just basic, and not too loud...
funnily enough i am left handed but play the guitar the right handed way.... strange eh...
time for cheers....

Not strange at all, if Jimi Hendrix did it.....
Have you got a teacher, it sounds (athritis excepted) that your posture may be causing the grief, with your arms that is, as for your fingers it'll come, there is supposed to be some product that claims to help, but i cant remeber the name , either way, give it time, ive been playing since i was 5 in one way or another and i still can get aches and pains after a long stint of playing, keep the faith !

As for picking, start of just 'alternate picking' the open strings to get used to it (if your using a plectrum), just down,up,down,up....etc.....you know the drill...ahem

thanx for the advice dave, i'll keep practicing... in pain...
and yeah they are nylon strings... no hope eh....
i'd luv to play electric babes but i only know a few basic chords so as yet it would be a waste of money that i aint got....
never mind, i'll leave the rockin' to your good self, and of course justin n the lads ....
well i must go for now luv.... hope to chat soon... take care....
KEEP ON ROCKIN' BABES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
