i must admit to hating the tag, but i dont understand what this is all about. does it stop the evil tag from appearing?

Well, no. But it gives you a nifty "badge" to put on your page. Not that you can't put it there anyway, but this way it's "official". Personally I don't have a goal of making the tag go away, but if this league gets big enough maybe it will make some people think twice before using it.

Not a very big one if one at all. There is this group which I made because the tag annoys me, and ViSA that someone made to be a counterbalance. Both have a small, and fairly un-vocal membership. It's less a war, feud, uprising than it is a case of mild discontent. For me, this page, and the badge, is enough to blow off the little puff of steam the issue generates.
