A Conversation for 'Waiting for Godot' - the Play
Godot - Go Deo

In my college Irish class we discussed Waiting for Godot and my teacher suggested that Godot was a Beckett-ized spelling of 'Go Deo' - Irish for 'until forever'.
I've read a few other Beckett books - Murphy most notably - and found them quite difficult to get into. This is most likely due to my lack of classical education. We don't get those in the States any more.
Godot - Go Deo
Dark Side of the Goon Posted Mar 23, 2003
A possibly apocryphal tale:
Apparently, the name "Godot" was shared by a french cyclist who was taking part in the Tour De France. A crowd, waiting for this famous man to cycle past them, prevented Beckett from entering his favourite bar for some hours. When he asked the throng what they were doing, having finally lost patience, he was told "We are waiting for Godot".
In a final irony, the town was never on the route of the race and Godot would, alas, never come.
