It wouldn't surprise me a bit. 
The university's unofficial motto is "Miami was a university before Florida was a state." And we wish we were in Florida every winter when the temperature stays below freezing for weeks on end...

Don't know about nonsensical. It's Latin: 'Prodesse Quam Conspici', which means something like 'to accomplish rather than to be conspicuous'. Which is better than being a spectacular failure, I suppose...
