I love, love, love bats and this article was so interesting. Never realised there were so many species in Britain. On holiday I love sitting outside the tent in the evening watching the bats come out and feed.
I didn't discover bat boxes until last year when I was camping in Devon but these will definitely be a feature of my garden when I buy a house. I wasn't aware of the laws surrounding bats in Britain and I am glad to hear it.
In Bristol Zoo they have Livingstone's Fruit Bats in a walk-in enlosure that are part of a endangered species breeding programme. There were 3 baby bats born recently. To be inside the enclosure with these giants is amazing and well worth a visit.
Thanks for this informative article.

I'm really glag you liked it, fran! If you like bats, getting a bat detection box (which converts the echolocation into a sound and I could hear) is a really fun way of finding and watching them. Devon's a great place to go, too (I live there!)
Thanks very much for taking the trouble to comment on this entry
