Animal Nursing Assistant Course
*********This course was launched by BVNA in 1989.During 2002, this course underwent some exciting new developments. BVNA have worked in conjunction with the Awarding Body Consortium and in September 2002, it was confirmed that this had been accredited by the Qualification Curriculum Authority (QCA) and is now a national qualification. Formerly known as the Pre Veterinary Nursing course it is a direct entry route onto the NVQ Veterinary Nursing Scheme.
The role of an Animal Nursing Assistant could incorporate feeding, cleaning and general husbandry of pets pre and post operatively, involvement in the day to day running of the practice ie., reception duties, dealing with clients, assisting in the consulting rooms and preparation of the animals and the treatment areas.
16 years or older.
• Working in a veterinary practice either full-time or part-time. This can be any veterinary practice and does not need to be a Veterinary Nursing Approved Centre or Training Practice.
• No formal qualifications are required.Practical training will usually be supported by a college-based course or studying via distance learning.Training usually takes at least one year.
