... but we just used dice... and a 5 meant you were out, then the next number determined how you were out. Took up many a rainy (and non-rainy!) breaktime at school before we discovered the joys of fantasy football...

Slight error in the article, as I recall the bowler's pencil didn't have 6 out methods, but had 5 out methods and one "not out". Otherwise 2nd opencil would be a bit pointless.

I see what you're getting at, and that would add a bit more interest to the game because when you roll the first pencil you've got a one in six chance of being out, and with your method you've then got a one in six chance of staying in.

The method in the entry still works because a good cricket scorer always records the method of being out. I'll amend the entry to include your variation, and thanks smiley - smiley
