Super Shiny Sarah

What a nice entry! I've always watched cricket with my dad but never asked him all those things I wanted to know (for fear of distracting him / destroying his concentration) but this is all very neat and simple and helpful, so thanks very much smiley - smiley

Banana

Not at all boring to read altho' I shouldn't think I'll ever want to get to grips with all the legs and gullies business! My Grandad was a big fan and possessed the following explanation of the game.

Cricket As Explained to a Foreign Visitor

You have two sides; one out in the field and one in.
Each man that's in the side that's in goes out and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out.
When they are all out the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out.
Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
When both sides have been in and out including the not outs, that's the end of the game.
Howzat!

smiley - huh

Acknowledgement to the Marylebone Cricket Club, apparently.

Just an innocent bystander

Hey, great Entry, thanks smiley - ok

I was always curious to learn more about the basic rules of cricket but could never really be bothered to find out (since I never watch it). Glad to have found it here. I had searched H2G2 already but came up with the entry on LBW which was not really what I needed at the time ... smiley - smiley

Thanks again,

JAIB
