I wasn't alive to witness this (I wish I had been) - but US swimmer Mark Spitz's 7 golds at the Olympics in Munich must take some beating for Greatest Sporting Achievement. Across a wide range of events (100m freestyle and 200m butterfly, for example) he won every final he got to and broke every world record along the way. All this after a disappointing Olympics in 1968 too!
