A Conversation for Great Comedy Acts
Ben Elton in the 80's and also the work of Richard Curtis

Ben Elton was really the comic for me then but like alot of comics the material was current to the period and often satyrical so dated easily and as opinions change, what was once hilarious is no longer that funny. Not sure that means it is any less good than the timeless antics of Monty python. If taken at the time it was 'delivered' then i think it deserves respect anyway.
And often these days the 'face' of the humour isnt necessarily the writer, ie Richard Curtis has contributed massively to British comedy as a writer but you wouldnt automatically think of him.
Craig Charles does a good live show too. But I think Eddie Izzard is the man of the moment
