The Marx Brothers have stood the test of time, I can watch any of their films with the grandchildren & all be eating the carpet.

why not leave in a minute and a huff,
If you don't wanna leave in a minute and a huff
you can leave in a taxi'

Myjo - Keeper of Decisions That Should Never be Made on Two Hours of Sleep

Agreed. I grew up watching the Marx Brothers, and they are still a favorite of mine. They were, in my mind, the perfect combination of intelligent and low-brow humor. Always funny, always entertaining, they are matchless and timeless.

Myjo smiley - sleepy

I guess my vote's going to have to go with the Marxes too - especially since I've written two edited articles on them already in the last couple of months (A933086 'Duck Soup' and A941096 'Flywheel, Shyster and Flywheel'), and helped out on two others.

My favourite film of all time is Duck Soup - 66 minutes of pure unadulterated lunacy. I'm afraid I've got to the point now where I can quote every line. It's stood the test of time excellently (well, I would say that) - you'd be amazed at how many Marx Brothers jokes turn up in modern comedy. This film typifies what the boys do best - taking authority and turning it on it's head, mixed in with a completely hedonistic outlook on life. God bless 'em.

Especially Zeppo - as he never gets a mention...

I most definatley agree. Sheer comedic bliss.

One of my favourite bits is in Monkey Business when Groucho attempts to snatch some champagne off a waiter:

Waiter: "Oh no, sir. This is for (such and such).
Groucho: (Brandishing some money) "You see this?" (Drinks a glass)
Groucho: "Come back in a half-hour and I'll let you have another look at it."

I eagerly await the day I get to use that one. I can go on with my favourite scenes - Groucho encoutering the captain in Monkey Business ("You would take them, wouldn't you?"), Chico's piano recital in Animal Crackers (Chico: "I can't think of the finish.", Groucho: "That's funny, I can't think of anything else."), or howabout Groucho's dinner in A Night At The Opera? (Nine dollars and forty cents? That's an outrage! (Turning to his date) If I were you I wouldn't pay it.").

Tell me when to stop.

Rains - Wondering where time's going and why it's in so much of a hurry!

I love Marx brothers films; they're just hysterical. My favourite bit of Duck Soup is the mirror scene between Chico and Groucho.

Though Groucho's one liners are legendary.
"Men, we must fight for this woman's honour, which is more than she ever did."

"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read."

The Marx Brothers featured in Johnathan Creek last Saturday. They proved quite useful, too.
