I suppose everyone knows that the most common pub name is the "Red Lion",followed by the "Crown", the "Royal Oak". However in the South of England the most common name is the "White Hart", and in London it is the "Prince of Wales".

How do I know? I counted them. Sad, or what?

The Marquis of Granby is not in the Top 100 names, although I agree there are quite a few.

He was John Manners (1721 - 1770) He was commander-in-chief of the British Army. It is said that a lot of ex-soldiers opened pubs after leaving the army around this time and for some reason named their pubs after their old boss.
