A Conversation for Isle of Wight Shipwrecks: The Spanish Armada
The Isle of Wight and the Spanish Armada

according to an old family tradition, my granmother's family, who were the Salters from Newport on the Isle of Wight, had Spanish blood in them due to being descended from Armada sailors wrecked on the island. My sister and myself always regarded this story with great sceptiscm, although my grandmother's aunt (who would have been born about 1880) told us the story herself. It is therefore with great interest that I read on the h2g2 site about the battle with the Spanish Armada in the waters off the Isle of Wight. Unfortunately this article makes no mention of any Spanish ship actually being wrecked. Does anyone know if a Spanish ship was wrecked on the Island, and if so what her name was ?
