For absolute beginers who are interested in playing go, may be interesting to try a 'light' version of the game, which can help them mastering basic rules. Idea is to eliminate very complex concept of territory, so goal of the game is just to capture enemy stone(s), or to capture as much stones as possible. After a week or so, players should become experienced enough to defend their stones very well, then transition to a full enjoyment should be slightly easier.
Good luck!
