A Very Short Story
'No?'
'What do you mean, it said no?'
'There's more, sir.'
'More than 'no', I should bloody hope so! Go on General…what more did HAGiS have to offer?'
'I'm sorry, but you just wouldn't understand!'
The President took a deeply infuriated breath, 'Try me!'
'No, sorry Sir, that's what HAGiS said …. erm… 'no'…. and when the response was questioned…it said, 'You simply wouldn't understand!'
Tech is working on it as we speak, but the programme is simply re-writing itself faster than they can find the bug!'
'Pull the plug. Pull it now!'
'Again Sir, my apologies, but that is simply impossible, there is no plug, HAGiS has gone live, he's in the cloud….hell….he is the cloud by now!'
The President's face went from red to ashen grey.
'Reboot it? Give it a bloody virus, hack it? Jeez, get IT to try turning the thing off and on again, I don't care what you do, just stop it!'
But obviously, in those few minutes, seconds really, the Hyper Artificial General Intelligence System had simply turned the world off….and there was just no chance of it ever being turned on again.
HAGiS had identified a fatal error in the Earth's running system, and, doing the job it had been created to do, eliminated the virus that was humanity.
The End.
