Margaret Truman's Chocolate Pie Recipe

This is courtesy of the Truman Library. Harry S Truman was president of the US from 1945 to 1953. He was also a senator, vice president, and judge. Margaret was his daughter. She was a famous soprano as well as a media personality. Mr Truman got in trouble for threatening a music critic with bodily harm for giving Margaret a bad review. Was she any good? Listen and decide for yourself.

The Truman Library is naughty and publishes menus and recipes from the Truman White House on social media. We say 'naughty' because Mr Truman, a good old piano banger from Missouri, had rather plebeian tastes and wasn't into haute cuisine. You might enjoy this chocolate pie recipe, though it sounds like work.

A recipe for chocolate pie from Margaret Truman. Melt and blend together over hot water one package semi-sweet chocolate chips (Nestle's) with two T sugar and 3T milk. Cool. Add four egg yolks one at a time; beat well after each addition; add one t vanilla to this mixture. Beat until stiff four egg whites and fold into chocolate mixture. Pour into pie shell and cool.
