September 2019 Create Challenge: Building Bridges

September Create Challenge by FWR
The old man crossed in the twilight dim,

The sullen stream had no fear for him;

But he turned when safe on the other side

And built a bridge to span the tide.

Will Allen Drumgoole

We all know we need to build bridges between ourselves and others, right? So how do we do it? Anecdotal evidence, please!

Have you ever:

  • Run into a cross-cultural misunderstanding that turned into an opportunity to learn and make new friends? Tell us how it went down.
  • Found yourself in need of an explanation, and been blessed with an interpreter?
  • Helped someone else navigate an unfamiliar situation, and learned something in the process?
  • Encountered a person or organisation that is really good at this bridge-building business?

'Cross-cultural' can refer to many barriers between people: language, sure, but also religion/philosophy, age, profession, geographical region, ability, orientation, or any other distinction that separates people. Share your insights with the h2g2 Post or Peer Review, as appropriate. Also send the Post your photos, poems, artwork, videos, and any other media you choose to express your ideas!
