There's just nothing in the world so ambiguous as dyed in the wool conservatism.
Well blow me down.

I'd say the outcome was a draw. A deep, sustained draw or two.
Well blow me down.

Do you mean because they seldom know what they're *for*, merely what they're *against*?
Well blow me down.

No, I mean that in keeping their conversation pure they find themselves making very dodgy allusions, more and more. Country music is full of extraordinary weirdness delivered in a deadpan voice.
Well blow me down.

Oh! Great point! I know what you mean. They end up treed by their own illogic.
You're right about country music. What's funny about that is that if you go back to the 20s, 30s, even the 40s and 50s, country music people were outsiders. True, their music also consisted of deadpan weirdness - but it was deeply satirical.

Look at the comments on that thread - modern conservatives trying to parse the ideological purity of the song....
Of course, the satirical country singer lives on. They just play smaller venues than the painfully sincere idiots. Do you know the Austin Lounge Lizards? 'On the Other Shore' is a masterpiece:

I also love 'Jesus Loves Me, But He Can't Stand You', and the one about the couple conducting an affair after meeting at the Southern Baptist Convention....oh, yeah, 'Going to Hell in Your Heavenly Arms'.
And there's always Kinky Friedman's classic 'They Ain't Makin' Jews Like Jesus Anymore'...
Key: Complain about this post
Well blow me down.
