What Do I Regret?

What Do I Regret?

Regret Is a Ruined House by Dmitri Gheorgheni. A corridor in a ruined house leads to an open door with a vivid sunset.

I’ve measured out my life with paperclips,

and stood on busy rush-hour trains,

flowed with crowds through Victoria.

I’ve taken my place in meeting rooms

and hammered on many keyboards.

So what do I regret?

I’ve measured out my life with tablespoons

and learnt a pile of recipes by heart.

I’ve heard the voices of little children

playing with bricks in dingy halls,

and sung the songs with gestures.

So what do I regret?

I’ve spent my lifetime closing doors,

glimpsed the sunrise on distant shores

and turned away, heard strains of music

waft on winds and blocked my ears,

forgotten the value of each new day.

That’s what I regret!
