Winter: A Different Point of View
The View from Here view. A different point from most people who only regard winter as the time of year only fit to stay inside and huddle round a warm TV, who has a fireplace these days1?
If you can stir yourself to get out there, the outside is good place to be, and there are many rewards for those who can be bothered.
From my point of view, the most rewarding aspect of an evening trek is the sky. Winter skies are some of the most colourful and dramatic things in nature. The contrast is never more dramatic, and the colours are at their strongest. A winter night sky can sometimes surprise you with a comet or a magnificent moon.
Personally I find the cloudscapes at sunset some of the best, and winter trees silhouetted by a winter sky are very striking.
So why not wrap up warmly, grab your camera, and give it a try: you might get cold, but you won't be sorry.
