1. Anthrax *Metal Band*
New York thrash metal band Anthrax released their 11th album For All Kings in 2016. Anthrax are considered one of the ‘Big Four’ thrash metal bands (the others being Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer).
2. Blood Ceremony *Metal Band*
Over to Canada for the band Blood Ceremony, formed in Toronto in 2006. According to Wikipedia their style has been described as ‘flute-tinged witch rock’ and their lyrics are filled with black magic imagery and references to classic horror films. Their fourth album Lord of Misrule was released in 2016.
3. Brain Drill *Metal Band*
Back to the States for Brain Drill, a ‘technical death metal’ band formed in California in 2005. Plagued by splits and line-up changes over the years, they managed to get it together for their third album Boundless Obscenity in 2016.
4. Car Bomb *Metal Band*
Wikipedia describes the style of New York band Car Bomb as ‘mathcore’. Digging deeper, this is ‘a rhythmically complex and dissonant style of metalcore’, which in turn is ‘a broad fusion genre of extreme metal and hardcore punk’. Ok, it’s loud. Their third album Meta was released in 2016.

6. Dead By Wednesday *Metal Band*
From New Haven, Connecticut hail Dead By Wednesday, whose fourth album The Darkest of Angels was released in 2016. They have twice won ‘Best Metal Band’ in the Connecticut Music Awards. There’s no higher honour for a metal band in Connecticut, believe me.

8. Fleshgod Apocalypse *Metal Band*
This Italian ‘technical death metal/symphonic metal’ band released their fourth studio album King in 2016. It peaked at number 180 in the Belgian charts. Something had to.

14. Ringworm *Metal Band*
From Cleveland , Ohio come Ringworm, a ‘crossover thrash’ band named after a Vincent Price movie. Formed in 1989, their 2016 release was titled Snake Church. The band is fronted by a vocalist named ‘Human Furnace’.
15. Rotting Christ *Metal Band*
Greek ‘extreme metal’ band Rotting Christ released their 12th album Rituals in 2016. Formed in 1987, Rotting Christ are one of the longest lasting bands performing in this genre.

17. Suicidal Angels *Metal Band*
Also from Greece comes the thrash metal band Suicidal Angels, formed as a school project in 2001, and who released their sixth album Division of Blood in 2016. Their seminal 2012 album Bloodbath peaked at number 84 in the German charts. Sadly, their 2001 school reports aren’t available online.
18. Upon A Burning Body *Metal Band*
Formed in San Antonio, Texas in 2005, Upon a Burning Body released their fourth album Straight from the Barrio in 2016.The band’s previous album The World is my Enemy Now managed to reach number 39 in the Billboard chart. In case you were wondering, a barrio is a Spanish word for a neighbourhood.
