A great entry, and an entertaining read while I mutter at my slow computer - but I'm confused why anyone would add cayenne pepper to vaseline...and then put it over their eye - just seems to be asking for trouble

The only reason I can think of might have something to do with the reaction of cayenne pepper with histamines. Application of a red pepper sauce, such as Tabasco, around an insect bite can relieve itching and swelling by drawing out histamines in the affected area.
But unless one is actually allergic to their black eye, I can't see how cayenne pepper would do any good.
