This is a very interesting article.
I lived in Kenya for a long time and went to the coastal city of Mombasa, which at the time didn't face any threats from the Somali Pirates. But now, I believe that the threat at the harbour is being taken seriously and also because of the kidnappings last year, the Kenyan soldiers are fighting inside Somalia.

I was always going across the border to Tanzania when I lived in Kenya as my grand parents lived in the coastal city of Dar Es Salaam. I haven't been there for a good few years now but my brother and his wife were there last year and they decided to take the ferry to the island of Zanzibar. When I was informed of this, I told them that they had taken a risk of being kidnapped by the Somali Pirates who are always in those seas. If these Pirates can kidnap people who are on a boating trip to Seychelles, and if they can also take on the larger commercial ships, then what is a ferry to them?

I know ferries are very common targets in south east Asia, I would think they would be a bigger priority given that many more people are captured and at risk when a ferry is attacked - money at risk i suspect is the reason
