The last sentence is out of date. As of August 2006 if anyone asks how many planets there are the answer is eight.
It remains to be seen how many dwarf planets we have.

Were I writing this today I would probably say something like
"Even Pluto cannot pass the 2006 definition for a planet. So objects like Quaoar will probably be similarly designated as dwarf planets.
And should anyone ask how many planets in our solar system I would be forced to answer eight.
