Well what can I say, CARNIVAL IS GREAT! I go every year and love it, my friend is a member of a carnival club and you would not believe all of the hard work involved in getting the floats ready!!!
All I can say is keep up the hard work and I hope this year is as good if not better than last year!!!!
Would love to hear others opinions on the Carnival!!!

Hi saintCarnivalQueen
I'm only an occasional visitor, but now my family are a little older I should get down to see the carnival more often.
I hope the article was accurate - I don't have insider knowledge of the carnival clubs, and I can only guess how hard they have to work.

Hello
I have had the joy of attending the past 2 carnivals (2004 and 2005)
We have been frequent visitors to Burnham on Sea over the past few years and decided to see what this carnival is all about.
From reading your explanation of what takes place, I would say it pretty accurate and its interesting to see the history of the event
We stood at the end of the High Street by the back entrance to Somerfield, where we reckon we had the best view, seeing the floats as they turn into Marine Drive.
The sights, sounds and hard work put into each float is out of this world.
The brains and backstage work done by all concerned is sheer genius.
The costumes, 'stage', music and technical detail are superb.
Its only personal choice, but I didnt really like the tableau themed floats.
My only complaint is that those who have recently aquired video cameras as toys, tend to try and get the best position and have no regard for the disabled or elderly who are sitting by the kerbside on deck chairs and stood in the middle of the road so that we couldnt see.
All in all, its a good night out.

Hi Serenity!
Thanks for your kind comments.
Thanks too for the "where to watch it in Burnham-on-Sea" tip. Does anyone else have good vantage points they can share? Don't worry - I won't tell anyone - it's only you, me and the internet.

Hi, any Carnival watchers still subscribed?
Who's going this year, then! Unfortunately, I don't think I can make it, but I'll be there in spirit.

I've actually judged at Bridgwater Carnival before. I'm 23 and I've only ever missed it once before in my life, however I'll miss it again tonight.
Luckily I'll be back in sunny somerset for Glasto carnival next week, so I won't miss out entirely.
Can I suggest that an extension could be made to this article regarding the tradition of squibbing?

I don't have much information about squibbing, unfortunately. Would it justify a separate entry, or do you have any info which I could work into a paragraph? My e-mail is at the foot of my Personal Space.

Let me have a think and I'll try and knock something up at some point.

I mentioned it in the entry. It's this ancient firework ceremony they hold at Bridgwater. I think there are movies of it around on the net - check the official website.

My goodness .... this all sounds like fun .... I'm really sorry I'll probably never see one.
Enjoyed the entry, and hope that anyone who's going enjoys the carnival.

Thanks Fizzy
If I remember next week, I'll look around for some Youtube clips of it and post the links here.

Hi Fizzy, I forgot to say that there are plenty of movies on this site:
http://www.somersetcarnivals.co.uk/movies.asp
Select Year = 2006, Venue = Bridgwater, then click on Search.
You'll find lots to choose from on the next page, but I'd start with the prize-winners (which another site tells me were Gremlins, Masqueraders and Newmarket - I didn't know the Hootoo sisters would be there ).
The movies take a little while to load, but it's worth the wait!

Neat site .... and some of those photos and videos are great .... they remind me of the Disney light parade we saw at EuroDisney last year.
