Dear Bernadette,
I don't know if I should be the first one to write to you about this, a complete stranger, but your account of the birth and death of your son really touched me. I just wanted to say that what has happened to you is quite possibly the worst thing that could ever happen to anyone, and although my support probably means nothing, I'm sending it anyway.
People crossing the street to avoid you and your husband, that's simply horrible. We all have trouble coping with death and loss, but how mean not to talk to a person you know and maybe even like because they're grieving. Some people think grief is contagious. I believe it should be shared. You did a brave, beautiful thing posting this diary on Hootoo.
Most of all, though, what happened is none of your fault. Alexander did not die because you were unable to keep him safe or help him. I am not a believer, so I cannot say it was God's will with any conviction whatsoever. But it is most definitely not your fault.
I send you love and support and admiration. You are one brave, brave woman, and Alexander will live on because you refused to consign him to oblivion.
Love,
G.

I tried reading this entry while at w*rk, and it's a good thing I have my own office, or people would have been wondering why I was ing
It's deeply moving, and at first I wanted to post something, and then hesitated, and then tried again, and then changed my mind - and then I realized I was shying away - but I don't want to do that!
In a way, this entry sort of brings you in very close contact with your innermost feelings - but it also shows that it is possible to survive even the deepest pain...
