Hawkstone Park, Shropshire, UK
Created | Updated Apr 5, 2006
Hawkstone Park comprises three golf courses, a hotel, follies1, and a historic park, and can be found between Shrewsbury and Whitchurch in Shropshire, just off the A49. It has long been a popular attraction for people of Shropshire, and tourists from further afield.
The Park and Follies
Hawkstone Park was first created by Sir Rowland Hill and his son Richard in the 18th Century. It provides visitors with a walk through grottos and caves, and amongst oak trees and rhododendron bushes. During the walk (which can take up to four hours, depending on the route) you can watch King Arthur address his troops in one of the caverns, meet the hermit in his hermatage, make your way across a ravine by means of a rickety old bridge, and see the follies of the park, all while marvelling at the Shropshire countryside.
Golf
Hawkstone Park boasts two championship golf courses, along with a 6-hole course, all set in spectacular scenery and suitable for golfers of all levels. Along with a golf shop, bar, restaurant and corporate business facility, Hawkstone Park offers a short game area, practice range, and a team of PGA qualified professionals. There is also a golf school, suitable for all ages, where you can learn all aspects of the game with professional guidence.
The Hotel
There has been accommodation at Hawkstone Park since 1790, when an Inn was built so visitors to the park and follies would have somewhere to stay. There are now 70 rooms available at the Hotel and Lodge, along with a restaurant, and conference facilities.
