One more wonderful thing about playing the tuba in a marching band is that, while the rest of the band in most cases wears tall hats with plumes, the enormous bell of the tuba prevents tuba players from wearing such hats, and thus they get to wear little berets in the school colors.

Nothing against hats with plumes, though--plumes are one of the great and precious treasures of the marching band experience.
