Federal Law Enforcement Training Center
Created | Updated Nov 5, 2004
The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) is part of the Department of Treasury. It trains special agents, officers, inspectors and park rangers from more than 70 federal law enforcement agencies. FLETC is in Glynco, Georgia1 near the town of Brunswick.
The center was established in 1970 to consolidate the basic training programs that different federal agencies had in place. FLETC offers advanced training in a variety of areas for federal, state and local officers.
Some agencies still do their training in-house. The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have separate academies on the Marine Corps Base at Quantico, Virginia. Other agencies send their new agents to FLETC, and then do follow on training. For instance, the United States Secret Service sends their new agents to FLTEC for 11 weeks. Then they go to the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, Maryland2 for another 11 weeks of training.
