I've read the article (very good) but nothing apart from the actual experience of a village prepares you for what it's like. You'll make friends for life all over the world, even if you can't speak the same language you learn very quickly that no matter what the language/customs of people are, all of us have exactly the same hopes, fears and dreams.
On a village in 2000 we had, a german kid and a Japanese kid who couldn't speak a single word of English between them, and yet they were best friends it's amazing, what kids and adults can get out of this worldwide organisation. There are 32 different languages spoken within the organisation, but only one universial language that everyone learns, love, peace and friendship.
