Hi! I found this article in a Google search and am very surprised that anyone else knew about this fountain. It has stimulated my interest for a few reasons. I grew up in Harrisburg and remember the fountain. Its still in Italian Lake. But I also remember an article in Paul Beers' column in the Harrisburg Patriot about Madeline Stokes, some time in the 70s. I think it said that she may have been John Reed's (he of "10 Days that Shook the World") Girlfriend at one time. There seems to be no online archive of the Harrisburg Patriot (although its still in business) so I'd have to go back to PA to look it up there. But in the meantime I'll try to find a bio of Reed to see if it mentions Madeline Stokes. She sounds like a worthwhile subject for research and I would like to know more about her.

smiley - wow

Glad you enjoyed the entry!

Living in Hershey, this statue is pretty famous and when I went to Harrisburg to find it, a helpful park ranger told me most of the story.

Pretty cool stuff!

smiley - cheers
