A Conversation for The Bethnal Green Tube Shelter Disaster
Bethnal Green Tube disaster

Survivors and families of those who died are desperately trying to erect a lasting memorial to those involved in the tragedy. It will be called the Stairway to Heaven Memorial - an inverted staircase 'suspended' over the stairway entrance to the underground station, in bronze with 173 beams of light representing those who died. It has been designed by two young, local architects - Harry Paticas and Jens Borstlemann. A planning application was been submitted to Tower Hamlets Council in December 2006 and we just need to raise £600,000 to be able to fulfil our goal. The aim is to have it erected on the 65th anniversary of the disaster in March 2008. But that is only if we can raise the money long before then. If you can help with a donation please go to the website:
www.stairwaytoheavenmemorial.org.
Thank you
Sandra

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
