Hi Purple, I recently read a book called "Mummies of Urumchi" by Elizabeth Barber, it's about some mummies discovered in China. They have been dated to 1500 BCE. & are fairhaired, they are thought to be of Celtic origin & they were wearing plaid. This is a great deal older than your suggested origin. I just thought you might be interested.
