A Christmas Sonnet by
Hypatia
The poor man's son walked through the cold to school
On the first day since the vacation's end,
With heavy heart the tried to comprehend
Why Santa hadn't come again this Yule.
There were no gifts, not even miniscule,
What had he done to Santa to offend?
When his teacher asked, he would just pretend;
He'd tell her Santa brought him something cool.
The doctor's son arrived at school by car
With new warm clothing covering every limb;
His a Christmas no poverty would mar,
With gifts and stockings filled up to the brim.
No cold or want to leave a bitter scar –
Santa clearly had not forgotten him.
