We now have a commercial during tennis on TV with John McEnroe ranting long and loud about "Out? How could it be out?!? It can't be out?!?" Turns out he talking about the sponsor's beer tap. smiley - ale

...SO HE MAKES MONEY FROM HIS TWENTY YEAR OLD SOUND BITE, REWARD FOR BAD BEHAVIOUR ... IS THAT CHAOS? HE PLAYS GOOD TENNIS AND MISBEHAVES LIKE A TWO YEAR OLD EONS AGO AND NOW GETS TO PRESENT WIMBELDON AND GET CASH FOR BEER ADVOCACY.
Instead of notoriety and frowns we in the developed world are increasingly finding such conflict and shadow a good thing on tele. In the u.k. it is known as the anne robinson phenomenon, where displays of rudeness equate to commercial appeal and big bucks, the funny and intriguing side of this is obvious but it worries me personally.

I think in the USA it's become the norm rather than the exception. Mike Tyson biting off ears, basketball and most athletes talking trash, pro wrestlers doing anything they can think of to appear outrageous, radio "shock jocks" and Jerry Springer, rap songs glamorizing violence. And on and on. If fame is hard to attain, infamy will do, celebrity is the goal - manufactured if necessary.

At least there are occasional lulls, like the traditional music from the movie "O, Brother, Where Art Thou" winning both best album Grammy and the equivalent for the Country Music Awards. smiley - musicalnote
