The Acrostic Poetry Challenge: Harvests
Created | Updated Nov 21, 2010
The Acrostic Poem has been a long-standing challenge, mainly between B'Elana and PedanticBarSteward. However, we've decided to open up the idea to anyone who would like to take part, as a regular poetry challenge.
The word chosen each time is the Telegram Game's current word, so if you join in or subscribe to the telegram game you'll know as soon as it's announced. When you've completed your poem, submit it by posting to a new thread below, and we'll put the best of them together in the next issue.
Have fun!
HARVESTS
Home is where the hearth is, when the winter's coming in,
All is safely gathered, storms without, the warmth within.
Reserves of food and drink are cached, the fire is blazing bright,
Vanities of summer fade as glows the candlelight.
Every cabin dweller in the weathered zone reflects,
Stores are needed, fire is life, the shuttered door protects
The nest where singles, couples, clans and families retreat,
Saving strength and resting, seeking comfort, seeking heat.
Half the pleasure of country living,
Arose from working together and giving,
Respect for your neighbours, respect for the world,,
Vicariously helping, when asked or told.
Each year when summer drew to an end,
Schoolchildren knew that they'd have to attend,
Taking their place on the farmer's land,
Stacking the bales and lending a hand.
Help me, son, and I will pluck
Apples. Put them on the truck.
Red and green ones, they're delicious.
Very good. You are ambitious!
Every basket's full already.
Slow,they topple. Steady, steady.
To the market place we go
Selling all at prices low.
