A Conversation for The Romantic Novels of Georgette Heyer

My Mother introduced me to Georgette Heyer when I was around 12. I had grown out of Enid Blyton and childhood books and this was my first venture into more adult books.

Faros Daughter was the first one I read and I was completely hooked. These Old Shades was my favourite and I think The Spanish Bride was my least favourite.

The books are sheer escapism and so romantic smiley - sigh. I haven't read one for over 30 years smiley - yikes, but may well sneak a look at them again after reading your entry.

They are fabulous comfort reading.

I am currently reading The Devil's Cub, and wallowing in it. What fascinates me is how unattactive Vidal actually is. By page 60 he has killed two people. But at the age of 16 I would have given anything to swop with Mary Challoner.

These days I probably still would give anything to swop with Venetia Lanyon, mind you. smiley - sigh indeed.

Have fun. They stand up to re-reading. And I am glad you enjoyed the entry.

I spotted several errors in this article and thought some of the simplest spelling errors would be worth correcting. Damerel has an "a" in it. Devil's Cub does not have a "The". You referred to Black Sheep having a younger stepmother and older stepdaughter. I think you meant Bath Tangle. At one point in the article you spelt Georgette without the first "e".
Would it be worth correcting these errors?
Also, it might be worth providing a link to the Heyer listserv at www.heyerlist.org

Good points all of them, and thank you for picking them up. I wrote the entry in note-pad in a hotel in a suburb of Munich, in the middle of an assingment abroad, and probably was not as strict about checking the details as I should have been.

Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. I thought I had got the correct spelling of Damerel, but obviously not. You are spot on about the confusion between Bath Tangle and Black Sheep, and also about Devil's Cub. I will also suggest the link.

Thaks for taking the time to read and to comment.

Regards

Ben
