This is very out of date now. The PSTN is being replaced by Next Generation Networks that use Internet Protocol (IP) and Voice over IP (VOIP). Business phone systems have been designed using the same technology. Virtually all new phone systems now offer VOIP services and integrate voice and data over the same network. Wireless phones are prevalent, integrating telephony in the office with mobile phone networks; the same mobile handset may be used inside and outside the office. The device everyone aspires to is a wireless smart phone which is a handset for voice and internet services in the office and everywhere else. The most popular is Apple's iPhone.
