hello mistdancer
dont know how i missed this going through peer review.
nice article.
i see loads of beds in stately homes and they look really odd. i would be terrified the top was going to fall on me, and the beds always look really short, and they all seem to have a camber like a road, i would roll out!
think i'll stick to my nice comfy spring thing at home!

Hi FABT
Yeah, they do look really uncomfy, don't they! And small...but then again, people back then were tiny
I always wanted a four poster, but one with curtains and no top...I'm too claustrophobic! Still, better than a heap of straw on the floor! Mind you, there's that much dog fur on my carpet......

i always thought the curtains were partly for keeping warm as well. and also because servants might be sleeping in the room too., though this seems odd in places where the lord and lady had separate beds.....
never mind

Sorry to intrude, but I thought that there ought to be four posters in this conversation.
I hope I didn't wake you.
